Job Description

Develops first cut data models for analytical use cases (Structured Analytical Requirements). Ensures data naming standards are followed internally and by vendor partners. Supports development and continuous improvement of overall data strategy (architecture, security, and governance) for analytical data across multiple platforms in North America.

1.Designs data models to support analytics solutions, working with BU IT resources and external vendors:

a)Leads design of scalable, resilient and cost efficient data models based on: performance, reliability, availability requirements; SLAs; vendor application specifications; and volume & usage estimates and forecasts.

b)Proposes data architecture options with consideration for benefits versus costs, market trends, long term supportability, alignment with global enterprise architecture & applications strategies, and integration between different technologies in use within DSC IT landscape

c)Reviews existing data models and identifies, documents and communicates gaps in order to maintain adherence to enterprise level architecture and technology standards.

d)Defines data architecture tasks and activities within project plans including dependencies, work effort, and timelines.

e)Communicates status of data model solutions and activities to project management and senior IT management.

f)Coordinates with the ETL specialists on data mappings and conversion rules.

g)Coordinates with the development DBA for instantiating logical schemas into physical schemas

• Manages Data model version control
• Identifies source data and develops transformation rules required for target models.
• Reviews vendor detail data models and maintains ownership of all data models.

2.Manages all related metadata including naming standards for tables, columns and view.

a)Responsible for all Apollo (Azure cloud) metadata in the Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC)

b)Responsible for mouse-over definitions in AAS

• Develops and maintains technical documentation about the data
• Responsible for the Enterprise Data Model

3.Provides leadership, oversight and guidance for data security and governance processes related to analytics projects.

4.Identifying opportunities to optimize warehouse performance

Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree in relevant field or equivalent 10+ years IT experience, required.

10+ years experience in an IT environment, required.

5 years experience working with data modeling tools, required.

3 years experience working with cloud analytics platforms, required.

3 years experience working on conceptual & logical data models, required.

3 years Star Schema (dimensional) data modeling experience, required.

3 years of relational data modeling experience, required.

Working knowledge of business aspects in a corporate environment, required.

2 years experience working with Erwin Data Modeler, desirable.

2 years experience managing metadata, desirable.

2 years experience working Azure cloud environment, desirable.

Some knowledge of supply chain or related industry, desirable.
