The Manufacturing Controller is responsible for development and maintenance of the Company’s standard cost system for its manufacturing operations in the U.S., on-going monitoring of manufacturing costs and associated variances along with plant profitability. This position will be the principal resource to provide meaningful operations analysis to the V.P of Operations, Plant Managers, and the Senior Management Team, including development and deployment of operating improvement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Plant Managers to coordinate and develop a “bottoms-up” annual operations budget by plant. This would include:
o Detailed plant spend and conversion costs by month
o Capex plan (project by project by plant)
o Standard cost update for manufactured products
- Monitor plant spending and provide meaningful analysis of manufacturing variances. Assist operations management in development and deployment of plans to lower costs or improve productivity.
- Work with Plant Managers to construct a monthly forecast of plant spend and conversion costs. Work with Plant Management to drive and deliver the forecast.
- Develop and provide meaningful analysis of monthly operating results by plant (comparisons to forecast, budget, and prior year). This includes:
o Reporting of monthly plant spend and conversion cost
o Reporting of plant profitability
o Reporting of key financial metrics for operations (conversion costs, working capital, capex)
- Coordinate monthly review of inventory position and related inventory reserves in accordance with Company policy.
- Actively participate in monthly operations review. Present plant performance results as requested with emphasis on helping management understand results and underlying causes of manufacturing variances. Recommend corrective action aimed at performance improvement.
- Assist in preparation and analysis of capital spending proposals ensuring compliance with company policy related to capital expenditures. Ensure
appropriate project justification and that the capex request meets required return thresholds. Ensure timely completion and closure of projects.
- Periodic physical inventory process and oversee cycle count program.
- Special projects as directed by senior management.
SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience working in a manufacturing company environment. At least two years functioning as Plant Controller.
- Experience in building standard costs, operating variance analysis, and development of reporting tools and processes to facilitate business needs.
- Ability to model and synthesize complex financial information, operating and KPI data into concise presentations to facilitate understanding of operational results and drive performance improvement decisions.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability balance with sound judgment.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP (mainly SAP) systems and databases, ability to extract and mine data and create ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.
- Expertise in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field; MBA with concentration in Finance a plus; CPA or CMA preferred
