Job Summary
The selected candidate will work on the transformation of pre- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment. While the focus of this project is on the abiotic transformation of PFAS, biotransformation and the synergies between abiotic transformation and biotransformation will also be examined at a high level to advance our current knowledge on PFAS transformation. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to working with scientists, engineers, and consultants at Auburn and other U.S. institutions, federal government, Navy, and consulting industry.

Essential Functions
Conduct the proposed lab and field work in a funded project on PFAS transformation, and complete all of the required courses and dissertation required by Auburn University for Ph.D. student.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned master’s degree (preferred) or bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, Soil Science, or a closely related field.
  • Good communication skills, team spirits, and dedication to academic excellence.
  • Basic knowledge on PFAS and their precursors found in the environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Hand on experiences on the analyses of PFAS and PFAS precursors by HPLC-MS/MS or HPLC-HRMS/MS, and compound structure identification are significantly preferable.
  • Basic knowledge or skills of ORIGIN, MATLAB, R, or Python software.
