SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Mechanical Engineer Principal who will work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians working to bring a variety of mechanical designs from the early concept stage all the way through fabrication.

Location: Work is performed both on site and allows for remote/work at home. The on-site work is at 28 Jacome Way, Middletown, RI, and/or the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport.

Work Schedules: Flexible work schedule options are also available. If desired, engineers may partake in SAIC’s 9/80 schedule to have every other Friday off or a 4/10 schedule if desired.

More on the Role: This job requires a broad engineering skillsets, well-developed work habits, and an eagerness and enthusiasm for solving engineering challenges. Your projects will include the design, documentation and testing of a wide array of systems in the areas of undersea defensive systems, torpedo test equipment, Automated Test Equipment (ATE), system design, and other evolving tasking.

JOB DUTIES:

• Design mechanical systems for underwater applications, custom data acquisition systems, and automated test hardware for land-based testing of naval systems.
• Create fabrication drawings of all hardware
• Create technical data package for systems and control configuration management of the drawings
• Candidates must demonstrate a history of excelling at multiple concurrent challenges and an eagerness and aptitude for learning new things.
• You will work as a part of a team comprised of engineers of other disciplines in order to complete projects, such as computer engineers, test engineers, electrical engineers, and systems engineers.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more related experience.
• 9+ years of engineering design, modeling, and drawing development in SolidWorks
• Experience creating technical data package quality drawings using GD&T

CLEARANCE:

• Must be able to initially obtain an Interim Secret Clearance and then obtain and hold an Active Secret Clearance for the duration of work on the contract.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience using configuration management software, PDM or Windchill
• Ability to interact directly with customers to extract requirements, generate a plan and report status.
• Experience working on Navy programs, such as torpedoes or other unmanned undersea vehicle systems.
• Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently with changing deadlines and priorities.
• Must be able to work in a team environment while completing tasks in an unsupervised and self-directed fashion.
