Job Function: The Minister of Music will serve Union Bethel AME Church by providing musical leadership over the music programs and choirs that is spiritually grounded, focused, and dynamic. The candidate must be skilled in playing the Hammond organ and keyboard. The Minister of Music serves in a full-time capacity and reports to the Pastor.

Skills and Attributes Required: This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience playing both traditional and contemporary music for a church. “The Church Minister of Music must see this position as a ministry to and with the people of God”; and must know the AME order of service or be willing to learn. The candidate must be able to work well with all staff, volunteers, and musicians of all abilities to further the music ministries.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement and play music for impactful worship services – both regular and seasonal – as well as non-Sunday services and special events. Schedule will be multiple Sundays each month.
• Coordinate rehearsals, performances, etc. with Steward and/or Pastor
• Provide leadership to a team of volunteer musicians to provide cohesive worship experiences that usher in the spirit of God.
• Create a vibrant culture that allows both the choirs and musicians to grow musically and spiritually.
• Conduct weekly rehearsals with Praise and Worship team (s).
• Conduct various musicians such as drummer, bassist, saxophone soloist during worship service.
• Maintain and build current musical repertoire.
• Travel with the Pastor to outside engagements, as requested.
• Attend staff meetings held by the Pastor and ministry team meetings as requested.
• Serve as a resource to other church ministries as needed.
• Coordinate leave time with Pastor to ensure that each worship service and choir engagement has musical support. Must report and request all leave time 2 weeks prior to taking time off from scheduled services.
• Communicate concerns involving musical equipment
• Interact, teach, and communicate with people of all ages including, but not limited to youth and young adult choir members, senior choir members and men’s choir
• Support the church’s worship environment through the well - prepared execution of music presented by the choir, praise/worship team and musicians through the appropriate usage of hymns and songs.
• Prepare for choir and praise/worship team rehearsal times to achieve a high-quality music program.
• Provide music for funerals and weddings as assigned by the Pastor. The family will pay compensation for services as an honorarium.
