As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1:

Class D, Chauffeurs License will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1 is $12.83/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2:

Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-2 is $13.72/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY:

Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY is $15.71/hourly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
NOTE:
May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator-Light by the requirement to operate larger mobile equipment with more complicated operating and handling characteristics.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.

50% Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed: • Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted) • Lowboys • Backhoes • Milling machines (<90 HP) • Front end loaders • Road planer • Bucket/ladder trucks • Road widener (<90 HP) • Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 • Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted) lbs but <40,000 lbs • Striping machines • Dozers (<140 HP) • Sweepers • Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump) • Track hoes (excavators) • Grad ails • Under bridge inspection units (trailer • Hot mix pavers ( <40 HP) mounted) • Motor Grader

40% Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower. Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations. Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw. Performs manual task such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of Asphaltic Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete Pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as need to accomp lish the department's mission.

5% Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator's manual and manufacture's recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.

5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, includi ng, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
