Role Summary

The Oncology RN will serve as a critical member of the care team and help deliver compassionate care to patients. This role will report to OCP’s Vice President of Operations while working closely with OCP’s oncologist and nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor patient care plans
• Assess, monitor, record, and communicate patient condition and needs as appropriate
• Document and carry out provider orders
• Assess and coordinate patient’s discharge planning needs with members of the care team
• Provide patient education around orders, care plans, treatment summaries, and drug-specific information
• Effectively triage patient phone calls to swiftly address patient questions or concerns and appropriately escalate when a higher level of care is needed
• Perform routine procedures within the scope of the nursing license, such as IV insertion, port access and flush, pump connects/disconnects, and the appropriate identification and assessment of adverse reactions
• Accurately administer and monitor chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications through all routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous.)
• Validate independent double-check for chemotherapy administration
• Follow all safety protocols in the handling and disposal of chemotherapy to minimize patient and staff exposure to hazardous substances
• Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study
• Demonstrate a sense of ownership through contributing to the improvement of the patient’s experience
• Act as a positive, collaborative team player by being flexible to achieve the mission of Oncology Care Partners

Qualifications

• 1-year of nursing experience in an oncology setting or Med/Surg unit, including infusion and the administration of chemotherapy
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), BSN strongly preferred
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) required within 24 months of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association
• US work authorization
