Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in optical sensor solutions for consumer electronics.
  • Experience in optical design, modeling, simulation, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with optics (e.g., lenses, diffusers, thin films) and sensor opto-electronics (e.g., photodiode front-ends).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in MATLAB and simulation tools such as Zemax, Code V, or LightTools.
  • Understanding about trade-offs between sensor performance and user-level features.
  • Understanding of productization process (xVT), associated goals, and metrics to ensure success.
  • Familiarity with various types of optical detectors (e.g., photo diode, APD, SPAD) and emitters (e.g., LED, laser, VCSEL).

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $119,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead Electro-Optical sensing architect for Google Pixel Ecosystem of Products (PEP), with particular focus on under/through display optical transmission and sensing.
  • Design, model, simulate, and characterize optical sensing modules (e.g., proximity sensor, ambient light sensor) for next-generation products.
  • Define sensor technology roadmaps to become in alignment with Project Execution Plan (PEP) products, compatible next generation hardware/physics, and land industry leading user experiences (UX).
  • Collaborate with vendors to produce next generation sensor variants to achieve Devices and Services Product Area (DSPA) product roadmap goals. Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., Display, Partner Domains (PD), Camera, Quality, Reliability, etc.) to forecast engineering challenges associated with roadmapping goals.
  • Innovate with Software (SW) teams to optimize optical sensor driver architecture, improve post processing algorithm methods, and streamline sensor data in the Android framework ecosystem.
