Our Middle Market Underwriting team is currently seeking an Underwriting Technician that is remote in the following states (Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona) with period office visits. This is a full time, non-exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position reports to the Commercial Lines/Territory Underwriting Manager. Responsible for supporting the Middle Market Underwriters by servicing accounts within an assigned book of business. Servicing will include endorsement authority and may include authority for accounts which fall under a specified threshold. This position works in conjunction with the Middle Market Underwriter to strengthen agency relationships by providing prompt and expert service to partner agents. This is a remote role.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Applies Fundamental underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification and control, coverage implications, pricing, and loss analysis as appropriate
  • Processes endorsements that falls within their authority and timely referring those outside of their authority to the Middle Market Underwriter.
  • Organizes a Renewal Book of business that falls outside of their authority level by initiating pre-set renewal preparation. Pre-set renewal preparation includes the gathering of necessary information through communication with agents, claims adjustors and risk solution representatives. Preparation also includes management of the quoting cycle and assistance with the preparation for large account stewardship meetings.
  • Quote management which requires understanding of the quote cycle including time required to provide renewal and new business quotes. All provided quotes have been checked for accuracy and are then provided to underwriter. This also includes the responsibility to update quotes with simple changes without assistance from the rating team. The UT is responsible for knowing rating platform limitations and communicating these to the Middle Market Underwriter.
  • Applies fundamental underwriting concepts to new business in preparation for the middle market underwriters review. Accounts that are obvious declinations are brought to the underwriter's attention.
  • Assists Underwriter in updating the pipeline management system with qualified submission and records when pipelined business has been written.
  • Instructs process support team on legal notices that must be sent at the direction of the Middle Market Underwriter. Notices include: non renewal and conditional renewal. Verbiage is provided by the Middle Market Underwriter
  • Documentation of all new and renewal accounts including the completion of underwriting tools and information from outside resources.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent
  • 2+ years of insurance industry experience
  • Collaboration, teamwork, and partnering within and across groups
  • Able to apply judgment and decision making under tight time frames and within quick turnaround
  • Negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates superior problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, demonstrates a strong grasp of the English language
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products (Excel- pivot tables, filters, navigating large spreadsheets; Outlook- setting tasks, appointments; PowerPoint- creating of basic presentation, inserting charts, graphs, tables)
