Job Summary:

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee Majority (Democratic) Staff is seeking a detail-oriented, personable, and driven individual to serve as Press Secretary. This individual will report directly to the Communications Director, will assist in providing overall strategic direction and leadership for public engagements and communications, and will take the lead on drafting communications materials for the chairman, including press releases, advisories, talking points, social media, memos, statements, and more. The position requires exceptional oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of political communications and U.S. foreign policy, and the ability to multitask and problem solve while working collaboratively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Communications Director in working with local, national and international media outlets to secure coverage.
  • Support development and execution of communications strategies that advance the Chairman’s legislative goals and objectives, including messaging, media relations, social media, and digital communications.
  • Collaborate with policy teams to draft of press releases, talking points, social media and other written materials.
  • Coordinate rollouts with other Senate offices.
  • Manage and task Press Assistant with responsibilities.
  • Monitor media coverage and provide regular reports to committee leadership on trends and opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in communications or public relations, with a strong preference for experience in government, national security or political communications.
  • Spanish-language skills are preferred but not required.
