DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The CHA Imaging department provides advanced medical imaging services led by a team of board-certified physicians, certified technologists and service-oriented staff . We offer a full complement of imaging services including a 128-slice CT and a wide bore 1.5T MRI. We also offer interventional radiology services, diagnostic X-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. We are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) which demonstrates our commitment to the safest and best quality care possible.
Summary:
Technologist will perform a wide variety of routine and emergency diagnostic procedures on a daily basis using digital and analog x-ray equipment. Must be able to provide quality care to patients of all ages. Individual must be capable of working independently, unsupervised and in a fast paced setting. Must possess good communication skills and be able to teach, direct, correct and inspire fellow employees. This position requires a wide range of technical knowledge and past performance of excellence in technical ability.
This is a network position and may require assignments at multiple locations
This position reports to the Diagnostic Radiology Network Manager and indirectly the site Chief Technologist.

Responsibilities:
Associates degree and/or graduate of Accredited Radiologic Technology Program
Licensure: Current Massachusetts state license
Certifications: Current certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) or if ARRT eligible attain ARRT certification within one year of employment.
Current Heart Saver or BLS certification
Ability to deal efficiently, ethically and courteously with all hospital personnel. Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with patient as well as a variety of medical and technical personnel

Responsibilities:
- Accurately records and conveys all phone messages to the appropriate person. Always correctly obtains name and phone number of caller. Messages are written legibly.
- Is polite and respectful to patients, visitors, staff, physicians and colleagues. Presents a helpful attitude at all times. Maintains a high level of awareness of customer importance and continually seeks to satisfy patient and customers needs
- Answers the phone promptly and politely. Gives the department name, identifies self and asks “may I help you”
- Effectively troubleshoots all printer failures and demonstrates ability to perform basic required maintenance procedures
- Demonstrates thorough understanding of computer downtime procedures. Assures the accuracy of all manual records during downtime to ensure complete data recovery when system becomes available
- Effectively interfaces with the IT department, as needed to resolve hardware and software problems
- Appropriately signs in and out of terminal screens as required by the hospital security system. Does not illegally gain access to unauthorized screens by usage of another individual’s password.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operation of PACS equipment and transmission of images to VRC
- Demonstrates proficiency in use of Meditech, Staffnet, Epic and Outlook
- Contributes to the achievement of excellence to the departments delivery of healthcare through the quality and caring values of the Cambridge Health Alliance
- Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offer help when own workload permits or finds someone who can be of assistance
- Contributes to the time management of the department by being punctual to work
- Assures that all work assignments are completed according to department and hospital standards
- Uses sick time appropriately. Does not call in sick more than 5 times per year. Gives required notice for all sick calls.
- Adheres to the Alliance guidelines on patient confidentiality and the release of imaging data
- Constructively analyzes work processes and contributes to the radiology team to improve workflow as needed
- Contributes to the team effort to insure efficient completion of all required department work within the appropriate time interval allotted
- Effectively participates in the training of new employees
- Works assigned schedule including overtime, holidays and call as required
- Reads all department communications such as emails, newsletters and meeting minutes in a timely fashion. Accepts responsibility for all updates, changes and new items included in these communications.
- Completes all CHA mandatory and department required training
- Promotes a professional image by adhering to the established dress code. Wears hospital identification badge at all times
- Performs the full range of diagnostic examinations within the scope of the imaging care and with a high level of competency
- Maintains radiology services in accordance with standards established by the department leadership to insure compliance with all federal, state, local and JCAHO standard
- Demonstrates competence and proficiency in:
- performing diagnostic radiology examinations in accordance to established protocols
- correct positioning of patient and equipment
- selecting appropriate imaging protocols and parameters
- PACS and RIS image management and documentation
- Identifies each patient, reviews each patient requisition for completeness of demographic data and consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis. Serves as a resource for correcting unclear or erroneous information received. Obtains and relays pertinent clinical information to radiologist
- Ensures patient safety through the course of their stay in radiology
- Records all pertinent data in RIS/PACS. (Technologists initials, pregnancy check, explanation for limited procedure etc.)
- Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, releases completed examinations to the radiologist
- Communicates pertinent data to nurse responsible for the care of the patient as needed
- Identifies anatomical orientation on all images, and insures proper marker identification on every image
- Coordinates radiographic examinations to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care
- Manages the workflow through department to ensure the timely completion of all work.
- Demonstrates ability to organize care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing physician’s orders
- Respond appropriately to abrupt changes in work schedule, handles interruptions by reallocating resources to the area of greatest need.

- Identifies equipment in need of repair. Notifies supervisor or vendor (in supervisors absence) to ensure continued service

- Adheres to all Infection Control policies and procedures and techniques to ensure the safety of both self and patient
- Demonstrates proficiency in resolving PACS QA issues.

- Participates in own performance improvement appraisal by identifying goals and reviewing process with supervisors
- Maintains order and cleanliness in imaging rooms and throughout the department. Preps and stocks rooms, cleans rooms and equipment between patients using appropriate cleaners
- Provides patients with educational information and psychological reassurance prior to exam to assure patient cooperation required for quality exams
- Assists in maintenance and compilation of statistical data as appropriate
- Participates in research initiatives and protocols as appropriate
- Participates in training and orientation of students and technologists
- Demonstrates proper hand washing techniques
- Adheres to the ARRT Code of Ethics
- Performs duties independently with little or no supervision
- Performs all other duties, as assigned
