We are an 1800-acre moderate resort in the Virginia Blue Ridge mountains next to Shenandoah National Park at Syria VA. We have 18 miles of hiking trails, stables, fly fishing, and of course Farming.

Our kitchen is preparing farm to table cuisine. We cook from scratch using our own farm gardens in season. We use increasing amounts of locally farmed meats.

Job Summary:

The Restaurant Manager assumes all responsibility for service in all dining areas and is responsible for maintaining and building customer relations with families, staff and guests.

Participates in all aspects of managing the restaurant and is responsible for the smooth and effective operation of the entire eatery. Directly supervises the front-of-the-house staff and will manage and work closely with the head chef to ensure that both the kitchen and serving staff create a positive and efficient restaurant environment.

In addition, the Restaurant Manager will lead a variety of management and functional activities: recruit, train, coach and develop all staff; conduct restaurant meetings with associates to enhance communications; deal with associate and customer challenges.

Special Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Previous restaurant management experience with successful results is required. Also, the Restaurant Manager must be self-motivated, have excellent communication and leadership skills, be well-organized and neat, and have a basic knowledge of wines and food preparation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Recruit, train and develop staff

2. Responsible for the process of all new hires with orientation, paperwork, training and scheduling

3. Gain a thorough understanding of the POS system

4. Supervise and assist FOH staff through the points of service

5. Ensure shifts are opened and closed in accordance with GML’s protocols

6. Assist in development and adjustments of said protocols

7. Maintain inventories of goods used by Front of House staff, anticipate and relay needs to Kitchen Manager/Chef

8. Prepare bi-weekly schedules with anticipation for up/down swings in business

9. Supervise the set up and break down of banquet facilities

10. Maintain a continuous knowledge of upcoming events with a focus on staffing needs/banquet needs (equipment, hardware, tableware, etc.)

11. Identify needs in hardware/tableware/equipment ordering and communicate concerns to chef

12. Take lead in developing front of the house procedures and protocols

13. Administrate open line of dialogue among front of the house staff to accommodate staffing/scheduling concerns

14. Cover FOH shortages and shifts when needed

15. Engage guest with a pleasant, gracious, and professional manner. Focusing on solutions for any problems

16. Conduct nightly preservice staff meeting with Chef and Sous Chef

17. Attend and engage in weekly kitchen meetings

18. Expected to study and gain knowledge in aspects of food service, including (but not limited to) Culinary terminology, Wine knowledge, Spirits knowledge, Mixology, Banquet Service, Formal Service, Casual Service.
