As a Spacecraft Subsystem Engineer you will work with all the Spacecraft Subsystem Engineers (SSEs) on the Flight Operations Team (FOT) to solve the FOT’s most pressing challenges and special projects. Expected activities include on-orbit hardware anomalies, high-risk conjunctions, deep-dive telemetry analyses, Operations Concept (OpsCon) changes, fault management enhancements, FOT tool development, and team exercises. The candidate will frequently lead discussions with the customer and external partners regarding special project status. What you bring to the table:
- A Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; Agile experience preferred
- At least 3 years in satellite flight operations, and at least 5 years in the space industry
- Working knowledge of the major satellite subsystems is a prerequisite
- Detailed knowledge of all subsystems and their performance is a large bonus
- Strong knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles and theories
What sets you apart:
- Demonstrated ability to organize and lead small teams (3-10 engineers)
- Past experience with earth observation systems and/or the NASA systems engineering processes is a bonus
- Prior experience with the LeoStar-3 bus is a bonus
- This position is expected to be on site as needed and within 2hrs of anomalies
- There is no travel anticipated at this time
- Exceptional communication skills with the capacity to get buy-in on concepts and ideas
- Creative thinking with the ability to multi-task
- Aptitude to quickly grasp and apply new information
- Effectively leads teams to the successful completion of major programs and projects
- Ability to interact with project teams, managers and end users
Duties and Tasks:
- Responsible for being a subject matter expert and maintaining the health and safety of a spacecraft subsystem
- Monitor daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly trend plots for spacecraft trends, performance, and health and safety
- Maintain the validity of procedures, displays, configuration files, and documentation for their subsystems.
- Prepare and submit products for commanding requests and perform verification/validation activities (simulations)
- Coordinate with component vendors and calibration and validation teams to plan and execute special activities
- Verify all routine commanding, analyze trends to assess near and long term performance, and verify nominal ops for the systems
- Plan, test, and verify special spacecraft events
- Prepare briefings for customer technical teams to gain approval to execute special operations
- Able to lead a technical team of subject matter experts in troubleshooting both known and novel anomalies
- Use systems engineering approach in evaluating existing processes and products to identify areas for improvement
