Job Summary

The Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversite for complex, services including the design, development, implementation and maintenance of systems and instrumentation in the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. In addition, the systems engineer leads complex projects that often include IT staff from different departments and portfolios and their leadership and works closely with other technical and IT leadership personnel providing high-level guidance, mentoring and training which includes assisting to develop other technical employees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 7 or more years in
  • GPU computing
  • Linux server systems
  • Development, design, and maintenance of systems and services
  • Experience performing advanced systems administration tasks and functions.

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Higher Education

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of, and operational experience with operating system internals, including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device drivers, file systems, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of, and operational experience with operating system internals, including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device drivers, file systems, etc.
  • Advanced troubleshooting ability
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking
  • In-depth technical knowledge of common operating server operating systems and technologies including relevant versions of Windows Server, Linux, virtualization, networking, storage area networks.
  • Basic understanding of software development, compilers and debugging
  • Ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot complex problems and provide advanced troubleshooting.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to diagnose hardware and software problems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting ability.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with multiple people across stakeholder groups and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to provide training to all levels.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with colleagues, students, faculty and staff in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Shift

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required
