Do you have a passion for tutoring, guiding or teaching others? We have an immediate opening for a full time Optometric vision therapist that will eventually have a home base in Clackamas & Vancouver after the 6 months of training.

An Optometric vision therapist is a member of a vision care team with extensive education and training in optometry. The therapist is responsible for working with patients under the care of an optometrist. The therapist applies an extensive understanding of the binocular and visual processing system. A background in teaching, childhood development, psychology, or rehabilitation is not required, but extremely beneficial to this position. The therapist implements the optometrist’s case decisions and will administer and score tests. The therapist is also essential to the guidance and motivation of the patient.

The therapist will develop a close relationship with their patients or parents of their patients. A desire to work closely with people and be a motivation in their treatment is a must for this position. The therapist has the responsibility to continue education and professional growth. It is of utmost importance that the therapist understands the concepts behind each procedure and activity given to the patient. Our office is very consistent with continued training for our team.

At this time, we are willing to train a candidate who is capable of floating between our 4 locations; Clackamas, Hillsboro, Beaverton & Vancouver for approximately the first 6 months of training.

As a specialized Optometric office, we provide a multitude of services ranging from routine exams and materials to developmental & rehabilitative visual therapy. Warmth and understanding are very important parts of the treatment success for our patients. We are staffed with 7 doctors, 2 yearly resident doctors, and rotating student interns.

Qualifications:

This opening is an excellent opportunity to work in an established vision therapy department. There are a few mandatory skills that are required to be considered a candidate for the position:

*Enjoy working with people of all ages (preschool, elementary, high school, college, and adult/senior) and of all disabilities with extreme patience

*Self-motivated and resourceful, but enjoys working within a team

*Communicates effectively in both written and verbal situations

*Ability to take positive and negative feedback and direction from children, parents, co-workers, or the directors

*A strong desire to learn is critical in training for this position as well as continued education throughout your career.

*Computer skills are required. Typing is completed on each patient through electronic health records software. EHR experience is beneficial to training for this position.
