Job Description

The Virtualization Engineer position is responsible for performing Operations and Maintenance for a multi-location enterprise (greater than 3000 users) VMware, vSphere environment. The position is a dynamic environment and requires the ability to multitask with varying priorities. Share and communicate ideas and knowledge to all members of the virtualization team. Works closely with our boundary, network, messaging, active directory, and configuration management teams.

Position requires a strong security focus and team player.

Occasional weekend or shift work may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor/Identify/Report issues within Enterprise virtual environment and create trouble tickets utilizing Remedy as needed.
• Build, configure and maintain physical hosts, virtual servers, storage and associated hardware.
• Provide local and remote diagnostics and technical issue resolution.
• Coordinating on-site touch maintenance and/or assistance for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Provide backups/restorations to Enterprise services utilizing Commvault and Avamar backup solutions.
• Communicate issues and recommendations back to leadership in clear, concise manner.
• Support other functional teams on an as needed basis.

Requirements

Jr. Level

• 1+ years experience working with VMware 6.x or 7.x.
• Experience with ESX/ESXi.
• Experience with vSphere, Hyper-V, AWS or Azure technologies

Mid-Level

• 3-5 years experience working with VMware 6.x or 7.x.
• Experience with ESXi/vSphere/VCSA/Hyper-V or Cloud technologies
• Experience with Commvault/Avamar Backup Technologies

Necessary Skills

• Basic understanding of other core IT concepts: storage, networking, security, guest operating systems, and general troubleshooting skills is required
• Experience with non-homogenous environments
• Ability to read logs and/or diagnose advanced level problems.

Preferred skills

• Strong understanding of networking and storage concepts.
• Commvault/Avamar backup solutions
• Dell/EMC Unity or Cisco UCS

Certifications and other Requirements

• Must have Secret Clearance.
• Candidate must be certified in accordance with DoD 8570 IAT Level II approved baseline certifications prior to start date.
• Additional industry certifications may be required within specific time frames.
• Drug Screen Required.

Preferred Certifications

• VMware Certified Professional 6 or VMware Certified Professional -Data Center Virtualization - (VCP-6 or VCP-DCV 2019 or higher)
• CompTIA Cloud+
