The City of Bryan is currently accepting applications for Wastewater Treatment Chief Plant Operator. This position assists management with providing safe operations and maintenance to the city’s wastewater treatment plants and performs all phases of wastewater treatment including plant operations, equipment maintenance, and other related duties to meet or exceed operational requirements set by EPA and TCEQ.

Hiring Pay Rate
$26.00-$31.00/hour (depending on qualifications)

Essential Job Functions

• Assists management with day-to-day oversight of plant personnel including participating in hiring; providing/coordinating on-the-job training; delegating and ensuring the timely completion of work; enforcing work procedures and standards; enforcing compliance with City and departmental policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and safety standards; approving time; and providing input into performance.
• Answers phones, dispatches calls, relays information, and makes decisions regarding plant operations and equipment maintenance.
• Responsible for taking samples, testing, recording results, and ensuring plants operate within the TCEQ permit.
• Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled repairs and installations of mechanical and piping systems, electrical components, and SCADA functionality for the wastewater treatment plants.
• Collects data and enters it into databases, maintains plant records, and produces reports as needed.
• Performs public relations activities such as responding to customer complaints or conducting tours of the treatment plant sites.
• Recommends procedural changes to management to help improve employee safety and productivity.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
• Responds regularly and promptly to work.

Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a similar field plus at least two (2) years of related work experience; OR an Associate’s degree with major coursework (as previously listed) plus at least four (4) years of related work experience; OR a High School Diploma/GED with major coursework (as previously listed) plus at least six (6) years of directly related experience.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements

• Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
• Must have a TCEQ Class C Wastewater Operator’s License with the ability to obtain a Class B Wastewater Operator’s License within the timeframe set by the department.
• Must successfully pass an annual pulmonary function test and respirator fit test to determine the ability to function while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
