Position: Bilingual Youth Evening Center Project Specialist/Youth Navigator (English/Spanish)
Program: Alcance - Youth Programs (Luna y Sol Familia Center)
Location: Watsonville, CA.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week-MUST BE ABLE TO WORK AFTERNOONS/EVENINGS 11-7 PM
Salary: $20-$21 per hour
Benefits: Medical (some employee share of cost, depending on plan selected), dental (employee pays half of dental), vision plan and life insurance, 24 days annual leave to start and 13 paid holidays, prorated to time worked, Retirement Plan (401K Retirement Plan after six months of service), and Employee Assistance (EAP) Program.

Overview: Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc.’s (CAB) employment program, Alcance, provides adult and youth alternatives to incarceration, re-entry, and workforce development services through the provision of employment readiness, training, mentoring and placement. The program follows a strengths-based, outcomes approach that integrates evidence-based practices. Alcance’s Youth Programs are focused on addressing gaps in supports for youth and young adults harmed by poverty and violence through providing culturally respectful services designed to increase youth wellbeing and safety, reduce harm, and build assets.
The Luna y Sol Familia Center is an EVENING CENTER that serves South County Latinx youth, predominately males ages 12-17 who are at risk of justice system involvement (prevention cohort) or justice involved (diversion cohort). Additionally, it provides services to families including parent/guardians and younger siblings such as linkages to basic necessities, wellness programs (restorative justice practices, substance use, and mental health), education/career exploration, economic opportunities, and community engagement/ leadership, and family support/parenting workshops. It has strong partnerships with probation, law enforcement, community-based organizations, and other partners. This is a two-year grant funded position.
Responsibilities:
· Provide outreach and recruitment activities to ensure program goals are met and contract compliance.
· Collaborate with community partners including schools, hospitals, law enforcement, probation, community based organizations, Santa Cruz County Behavioral health, pop-up identified sites, etc.
· Conduct presentations with program information and attend community outreach events.
· Conduct quarterly parenting workshopsandmonthly family activities.
· Provide trauma informed culturally responsive programs-intensive case management and mentoring to youth who are impacted by violence, provide assessments, goal setting, and access to services.
· Engage, maintain, and track an active caseload of participants, focused on increasing youth safety and well-being through goal attainment and prosocial activities such as employment and/or education.
· Build youth assets by providing educational workshops focused on positive decision making, cultural strengths, and job preparation skills.
· Provide harm reduction strategies including 1:1 mentoring, advocacy, and systems navigation.
· Engage youth’s families in 1:1 and family gatherings; increase families’ access to services.
· Plan and implement youth-driven prosocial activities that will support youth success, build leadership, and connect youth to each other and to the community.
· Conduct screenings, intakes, CAN assessments, STEPS4Success Model, cultural circles programming.
· Create youth-led case plans/Smart Goals setting; help youth navigate systems to reach goals; and create action steps with youth that include timelines to support youth success.
· Provide monthly family activities at the center and pop-up sites.
· Participate in youth violence reduction partnerships and community/county meetings, other public and private entities, service providers, and additional stakeholders to accomplish defined objectives.
· Co-facilitate community/school groups/workshops that focus on violence prevention, employment and life skills.
· Participate and assist in the preparation of peace promotion, prosocial activities.
· Able to occasionally work on weekends/holidays for crisis response or events.
· Ensure safety of youth and staff by following established safety protocols.
· Work collaboratively with probation department, local law enforcement to support a crisis response system.
· Lead, assist and support in community vigils and other youth-building empowerment activities.
· Assist and support in neighborhood, school and/or community conflict mediations.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education and Experience Required:
· AA or BA in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Criminal Justice or closely related field.
· Experience/knowledge of social determinants of health and effective prevention and intervention strategies.
· Experience working with, or knowledge of, restorative justice principles.
· Experience working with at-risk and high-risk youth and/or young adults.
· Current valid CA driver’s license, clean driving record and proof of vehicle insurance.
· Bilingual (Spanish and English).
Background Clearance and COVID-19 Vaccination Required:
· Ability to clear and maintain fingerprint clearance.
· Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
